A World Without The Beatles: Yesterday

Imagine your favorite band in the entire world. They’re huge. Everyone knows all of their songs including you. You love to cover their work and can play and sing any one of their songs with your guitar. Now imagine the power goes out and the entire world goes dark. The lights come back on and you discover that know one remembers the band existing except for you. What do you do?

Yesterday follows a struggling, amature guitarist, Jack Malek, who wakes up to realize that he is the only person in the world who appears to know who the Beatles are. As a lifelong fanatic Jack knows everyone of their songs and begins recording and singing these songs and passing them off as his own. He becomes an instant hit and skyrockets to fame much to the chagrin of his long time crush and friend, Ellie. Now he must deal with the trials of his newfound fame, his own self doubt, and the possibility of being discovered as a fraud.

The film is directed by Danny Boyle and stars newcomer Himesh Patel, Lily James, Kate Mckinnon, and Ed Sheeran.

The trailer paints a heartwarming, musical comedy. It creates an absurd and wonderfully weird scenario that pays loving homage to one of the greatest bands in the world. It forces the viewer to contemplate the scenario for themselves and imagines a world that never knew the Beatles. It delves into questions of identity, plagiarism, originality, creativity, life, and love. This is a must watch for any diehard fan or anyone who has ever heard a song by the Beatles.

The film premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival in May and will be released June 28th, 2019.
