Up and Coming Indie Actor...Shia Labeouf?
LaBeouf began his career in performing by getting on stage at comedy clubs around his neighborhood at age ten. He found himself an agent and ended up getting his big break on the Disney Channel original series, Even Stevens. This break was quickly followed by Holes. He also starred in a historical drama, a thriller, was a host on SNL, and then ascended to his first big adult role as Sam Winnicky in the Michael Bay Transformers series.
Lady Gaga: Calculation or Evolution
I used to think that Lady Gaga was of the devil. I know. I know what you’re already thinking. She rose to prominence during my formative middle school years. Years in which I was just beginning to scratch the surface of more mainstream music. But there were still areas into which I did not venture, music tastes that required a greater level of maturity than I possessed at the tender age of thirteen.
Why You Should Care About Pop Culture Scandals
Why do we enjoy hearing the latest scandals about stars, singers, and icons? Is it because we enjoy having new people to judge? Is it because we like the burst of self-righteous self-satisfaction of knowing that we would never do anything that stupid? All of these are probably true for anyone who enjoys pop culture news and many of these ring true for me. But maybe there is something greater and more positive that we can glean from our guilty pleasure.
How Jordan Peele Brings Originality Back to Hollywood
Back in April of 2016, Jordan Peele, alongside his co-star Keegan Michael-Key, opened their first major theatrical outing in the form of Keanu, which unfortunately underperformed at the box office, taking in around $9 million during its opening weekend and barely doubling that before the end of its run. After such an unfortunate performance, no one would have expected that Peele would soon become one of the most talked about names in Hollywood thanks to his directorial debut, Get Out.
From Indie Flicks to Captain Marvel
In April 2017 Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck were approached with the opportunity of a lifetime: to direct the upcoming Marvel film, Captain Marvel. The two were actually previously considered to direct Guardians of the Galaxy. It is interesting to see a pair known mostly for lower budget films or indie flicks chosen to represent a rather daring film for a billion dollar franchise.
New York, 1978, Hell’s Kitchen. The wives of Irish mobsters, Kathie Brennan, Ruby O’Carroll, and Claire Walsh, are struggling to support themselves after their husbands are arrested by the FBI. They are promised protection and support by the Irish mob but are not even given enough money to cover the rent. The film is based on a true story about a former skinhead member, Bryon Widner, and his path to redemption. He begins to try to find a way out of this pit and finds himself running up against his father figure and leader who would rather see him dead than let him leave.
What Is It Really Like On Set?
This past summer, I had a few opportunities arise that I am incredibly grateful to have had. One of these opportunities was a production assistant job on the set of NBC’s American Ninja Warrior (ANW) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The other was also a production assistant job on the set of Netflix’s Hyperdrive in Rochester, New York. I want to emphasize how I came across these jobs because it is essential to anyone looking to get into this industry.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile
Serial Killers are trendy! Or at least they’ve shown themselves to be in the recent release of Netflix original series. The success of true crime tv-series and documentaries reveal’ a demographic that is utterly fascinated by the minds of those who kill. The overwhelming positive response to Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, another Netflix production, has prompted them to produce a feature length biopic on Bundy, titled Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

How The Beatles Impact Generations To Come
A voice of a generation, the precursor of experimental sound, and the primary markers of the second British invasion. Four boys from Liverpool with little to no sense of music but all with an ambition to become musicians. These young men became known as the Beatles and one of the most influential groups ever to grace the musical scene.
A World Without The Beatles: Yesterday
The trailer for Yesterday paints a heartwarming, musical comedy. It creates an absurd and wonderfully weird scenario that pays loving homage to one of the greatest bands in the world. It forces the viewer to contemplate the scenario for themselves and imagines a world that never knew the Beatles.
The Hard Work in Creating: Girlboss
As creative entrepreneurs, we all feel at some point the pull to find something we love and to create an opportunity for ourselves to create that thing for the rest of our lives; with nothing holding us back but ourselves. Girlboss’s Sophia Amoruso, shows us that we can in fact do that through hard work.
Jon Bellion Doesn’t Care About Streams and Neither Should You
After dropping his fifth album Glory Sound Prep, Jon Bellion was silent. He didn’t run around promoting it, signing posters or appearing for interviews. That is until – to everyone’s surprise – he interviewed with Genius, a music media company, to discuss his “backward” way of sharing music. But his silence was not inattentive, but rather clearly calculated.
Surviving an All-Nighter on Set
Most college students will tell you that all-nighters are an inevitability in life, especially if you are an art major. While we here at Narrative will never encourage all-nighters and will tell you that such stress is not good for your body or your creativity; we CAN give you some tips for how to survive it and how to keep your body running as you burn the midnight, the 1am, the 2am, and the 3am oil.
Winter Watch List
Winter is here. For many people, myself included, this means burrowing into your bed, turning off your lights and hibernating until Easter. Unless you have classes, which unfortunately I do. So the best form of distraction is going to the movie theatre, grabbing some popcorn and kicking back for the evening. Here at Narrative we have compiled a list of films to help you beat the winter blues.
